The Catalyst For Your Personal Growth

There are basic aspects of your life that you work through every single day, knowingly or unknowingly. It's the everyday tasks you don't think about that affect your happiness, your health, your relationships, and your finances.

Remember the last time you actually planned your day?

No? Can't recall?

Then this is for you.

You remember? You already plan daily?

Awesome. Do you execute daily?

No? Then keep reading.

At KandL, the CORE 4 is defined as:

1. Focus
2. Foundation
3. Family
4. Future

Now why should you care?

"Focus, Foundation, Family, & Future" are just the terms I use to teach this methodology.

I learned it from Sean Whalen as "Power, Passion, Purpose, & Production."

Sean learned it from Garret J. White as "Body, Being, Balance, & Business."

The point is that we all work through "health, wealth, relationships, and happiness" goals through our day. Health, wealth, and relationships are known in marketing as "the eternal markets." Everything you buy, read about, do through your day revolves around at least one of these facets.

Complain about your job though show up anyways? Wealth.

Stressed about the kids and the lack of sex you're having with your spouse? Relationships.

Worried that you don't have time to workout anymore? Health.

Stressed that you check off all of the above? Happiness (usually synonymous with relationships in the trio).

Do you now see how each one shows up in your day, regardless of calling it "Body, Being, Balance, & Business" or "Power, Passion, Purpose, & Production" or "Focus, Foundation, Family, & Future?"

You don't have to call your CORE-4 any of these. It can simply be "[insert your name here]'s health, wealth, relationships, happiness goals."

We are going to work through this together to illuminate these aspects of your life, define where you experience each one, and give you tools to succeed in your CORE-4.

Focus

The KandL CORE-4 starts with "a clear focus" because every action you take needs to take focused energy. You feel lost and distracted because you are not clear in what you want. You do not have a focus to carry you through your day, week, month, year, and life.

You feel that every day is the same random mix of disappointment because you didn't set a goal for what you wanted. You didn't plan for the day and so your day is dictated rather than defined by you.

​So what do we do about our focus?

  • Study: This can be Bible study or reading to enhance your skills

  • Story: Think about the stories you're telling yourself daily. Are they working for you or hurting you?

Foundation

Building your life's foundation revolves around your mental and physical health. When you are mentally healthy, you have the strength and resilience to think clearly, make good decisions, and not stress and worry as much. Your physical health is the foundation of all your life. I learned the following example from Zig Ziglar:

"If I offered you $1,000,000, would you want it? Now if I said to get the million, you had to give up your ability to walk or see or hear, etc. would you still want the $1,000,000?"

Hopefully, your answer is an easy, "no."

When you're healthy, you put your health off to the side, eating junk food, skipping training, alcohol binges and late night tv cutting into your sleep time. 

When you're unhealthy, what happens? You will do any and everything to feel better again.

​So what can we do to build our foundation?

  • Movement: Strength training, yoga, cardio. etc.
  • Meditation: Taking a minute to check in with yourself. Being honest with yourself about how you feel and why you feel that way right now.

Family

How often are you expressing gratitude and awareness of those who you love? Like a genuine appreciation that doesn't involve asking for something in return.

​How many times do you complain about not getting enough "us" time? Not enough sex? Not enough respect? Did you stop to think that maybe your partner doesn't provide what you want because,

1. You haven't asked and been upfront
​2. They didn't know you felt x, y, z kind of way?

​In order to get more, you need to give more. And I mean give from a genuine place of giving, not to get something in return like a response, an apology, etc.

So how do we change this?

  • Person 1: Taking the time to express genuine love, gratitude, and appreciation for this person
  • Person 2: Taking the time to express genuine love, gratitude, and appreciation to another person

Future

Ultimately, what are you living for? Probably something in the future.

You go to middle school to go to high school to go to college in the future.
You take the GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc. to get into continuing education in the future.
You invest in stocks, a 401k, and ETFs so you can retire happily in the future.

Though you can get so caught up planning for the future that you forget about this moment.

The future literally does not exist. You cannot create the future. You cannot predict the future.

The future is now - dumb meme aside. The way you live right now creates the future you will experience. So how do you set yourself up today for something your future self will thank you for?

By creating value today that will pay off later. I tend not to say "tomorrow, etc" as we're not guaranteed "tomorrow, next week, this weekend..."

  • Making Money: Learning and exploring ways to create value and in turn, greater income.
  • Growing Money: Making your value and worth work for you to create a life you're thankful for.

I'm not going to lie, this can be a lot. Though like anything else, it takes practice. You're already living your CORE-4. Now it's time to be aware of them and make the changes necessary to find the freedom and life you want to enjoy moving forward.
